The Florida Department of Transportation showed off a prototype ticket kiosk that will be used as part of the $1.2 billion SunRail commuter train system set to span Central Florida starting May 2014. Nice video of the unit as they anticipate it will be in production. Cash and coin and bus ticket vouchers along with credit.
According to orlandosentinal.com, the kiosks come with a $60,000-apiece price tag from holdings company ACS and feature a touchscreen user interface and keypad similar to an ATM.
"The goal," said SunRail spokesman Steve Olson, "is to make it as simple as possible." Olsen said the technology ultimately "will be something people will have used in the past."
Fifty of the machines are on order from ACS for a total cost of $2.4 million, the article reported. They are scheduled to be delivered late this year, with four of them deposited at each of SunRail's 12 stops, two on each side. Two machines also will be held in reserve as backups.
